City of Denver

Public Works LogoWe’ve recently helped the City of Denver share progress photos with the general public on their Central Park Blvd. Project. The city has integrated our photo hosting platform into their existing website resulting in a simple easy to use service that helps them organize, manage, and share progress updates. The city is able to provide current updates on their new project with-out the hassle of updating city pages every so often. The service gives the construction mangers on site the ability to upload progress photos into the system. These same photos are then made available to the public through project links on the city’s site.

City of Denver's Site

The City has provided a link from their website over the progress photos that are being managed on JobSiteVisitor.com. Try it out, click on the city’s website to the left and select the JobSiteVisitor.com icon. It will take you right into the progress photos over on our site. It’s that easy, with just one site update providing a link to JobSiteVisitor, progress photos can be updated and maintained during the entire construction process without spending time and money on a web developer.

One of the other great things about our service is the advertising feature. It allows users to give ad space to the project team. These are not random ads that you can’t control. These are specific ads and logos that you want displayed next to your project. It’s a nice way to give an owner, investor or contractor some recognition.

The city has also elected to make their project available to the public so our Twitter and Facebook links appear in the lower left corner. This allows users to share updates through their social network. The project has already uploaded 36 weeks of photos and its proven to be a very easy way for the city to track and monitor their project’s progress from start to finish.

Canon PowerShot S90

Great “Point & Shoot” camera for Construction Photos:

Canon S90 front and BackOver the past few years contractors have been asking me to recommend a good “point and shoot” camera for their construction progress photos. I’ve never had a great answer for them other than find a brand name (Canon, Nikon, Kodak, Panasonic), make sure it has a date stamp, and spend around $250. There are so many small point and shoot cameras out on the market today it’s really been a toss up until now. Late last year Canon released its PowerShot S90 and if you’re in the market for a great “point and shoot” camera for construction photos you’ve got to check out the S90.

This camera is great for construction photography because it produces outstanding images in a variety of lighting conditions, specifically low light. For the camera geeks in the audience this is done through a wide aperture of f/2.0 and an optical Image Stabilizer (IS) that helps reduce blur. I also like the fact that the camera is fully manual which allows photographers to adjust shutter speed and aperture without having to invest in an expensive professional digital SLR camera.

The Canon S90 is ideal for contractors who need an affordable “point and shoot” camera that will take good photos in low light. I’m also recommending this camera to anyone who wants to start a construction photography business on a “shoe string” budget. You don’t need to run out and spend $3K on an expensive D-SLR camera and lense. The S90 combined with JobSiteVisitor’s construction photo hosting service makes it extremely affordable to get your construction photography business up and running. Then after you land your first job or two you can go out and buy a better camera, and you’ll always have the S90 as backup.

The Central Park Boulevard Interchange project is one of those projects that was expedited through the combined efforts of the Federal Highway Administration, Colorado Department of Transportation, and City and County of Denver. This is going to be a great project for the area. Not only will the interchange be creating short term construction jobs over the next year but it’s going to create some excellent long term development opportunities for years to come.

During the construction of the project Jacobs and SEMA Construction will be using JobSiteVisitor.com’s photo hosting and management service to help share progress updates with the general public. The service is designed to make it easy for the general public to get quick and accurate construction progress updates on a regular basis.

Just go to The City of Denver’s project page – Central Park Blvd. Interchange and click on the JobSiteVisitor.com Logo on the right side of the page or just click on this link to see Construction Progress Photos. Stay tuned, more progress to come.
